Island Placement

Some materials are quite expensive or need to be located in specific locations on a product. An example of this is a transdermal patch where the active ingredient is costly and needed only in the center of the patch.

With island placement, one layer is die cut and the part is transfered to a second web that acts as a carrier. The ratio of the speed of the die cutting top layer to the carrier will determine the spacing between parts.
